Alan Garcia-Epelboim, from Caracas, Venezuela, received his B.A. in biochemistry from the University of Pennsylvania in 2021. While in Philadelphia as an undergraduate, he joined Hongjun Song’s lab where he explored his interest in neural development. Alan joined the
Liu lab in the summer of 2023 to complete an NIH T35 funded project to edit the memory-specific DMRs in mice to examine whether they contribute to memory function. He is currently a medical student at the Columbia Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons.

Outside of lab, he enjoys climbing (indoors but hoping to get outside soon!), reading, and plans to learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in the summer.
